Norwest and the Prime Minister's Olympic Dinner 2008 at Hisense Arena

On July 19, the Prime Minister's Olympic Dinner was held at Melbourne's Hisense Arena (formerly Vodafone Arena). More than $1 million was raised for the Australian Olympic team by the corporates who had paid $20,000 a table for the evening, doubling the organisers' outlay on the event. The money helps offset the $33 million the AOC - which doesn't accept any Federal government funding since the political fallout from the boycotted Moscow Olympics - has spent on preparing and sending the 433 athletes to Beijing.

The entertainment for the evening was impressive. Including Kate Ceberano, Jon Stevens, Wendy Stapleton, David Hobson, Human Nature, and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, with the national anthem sung by operatic stars Antoinette Halloran, Dimity Shepherd and Vanessa West.

The artist performed on three seperate stages. The system for the main stage was 12xM2D plus 3x700Hp’s per side, with 6xM1D as front fill. The system was processed with Lake Contours and the FOH console was a Digico D5. On the Prime Minister's stage the PA consisted of 6xEAW KF730’s per side with some UPA’s on the ground as front fill. More Lake Contours were used as control on this stage and a DM2000 Console.

On the centre stage, Human Nature finished the night off! The PA for this stage was KF730’s in four drops of five boxes with some PS15’s as fill. There were 8x PS8’s as lip fill and 6xSB1000 Subs hidden under the stage. Control for this stage was again done with Lake Contours, with a Yamaha M7CL at the mix posiiton.

In all, 600 performers, including some prospective Olympians, strutted their stuff for more than six hours, including a stunning Chinese spectacular. The most successful Olympic Dinner to date!
