Country Music Awards of Australia 2009

Norwest Productions once again supplied audio production for the 37th Country Music Awards of Australia. The event was held at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment Centre during January.

Norwest has supplied the audio for this event for many years from the Sydney headquarters. This year it was decided that it was best practice to facilitate the awards from the Brisbane office - a task which was of course performed with the competency and professionalism that our clients have come to expect from Norwest equipment and crew.

The system supplied this year was comprised of 28 L-Acoustics KUDO flown as a L/C/R configuration and delay’s. Outfill was covered by EAW KF850s. The whole system was powered by Lab Gruppen fp10000Q amplifiers with signal distribution & processing handled by six Dolby-Lake DLP412. The live music portion of the show was mixed to the room by the legendary Ernie Rose on our Digico D5T down fibre of 56 channels to XTA DS800 active splitters. Presenters and playback were taken care of by Ian Shappcott as a submix on a Yamaha 01V/96.

An interesting and complex Monitor system comprising of Aviom and Shure PSM700 IEM systems, some of which chained together to create wireless personal mix stations, was driven by one of our mainstay large format digital consoles, a Yamaha PM1D. Few consoles can compare when so many inputs and outputs are required.

RF was managed via Shure Workbench. The complexity of these events should never be underestimated with ten channels of IEM and twenty channels of Shure UR4D wireless microphones and guitar packs. This is made all the more challenging by the minefield of all the other radio gear that gets added to the equation at the last minute when the TV and Broadcast crews arrive.

This year's show maintained and improved on the previous year’s standards. Despite the extreme pressure that is experienced with a live television broadcast with the cream of Australian Country Music the superb Norwest crew seamlessly stood up to the task to the accolades of artists, audience and clients alike.
