Creative Generation 2009

This year the Queensland Department of Education and Training really celebrated Queensland's 150th birthday in style!

Creative Generation is a showcase of talented performers from the Queensland public education system and has been running for five years. This year was the first year that the event was staged in the Brisbane Entertainment Centre at Boondall.

With a cast of more than 2000 state school students, Department of Education and Training’s Creative Generation — State Schools Onstage 2009 included a symphony orchestra, stage band, a massed choir and dancers along with talented featured and backing vocalists. Students performed alongside professional artists including Australian country music legend Lee Kernaghan; Queensland pop sensation Ricki-Lee Coulter; ARIA awardwinning band Operator Please; 2008 So You Think You Can Dance winner Jack Chambers; 2008 Australian Idol finalist Chrislyn Hamilton; didgeridoo performer William Barton; internationally acclaimed tenor David Kidd and Queensland jazz singer Ingrid James.

The event has certainly grown over the years - originally being on a much smaller scale and held at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. With so many schools now eager to participate it became apparent that the Brisbane Entertainment Centre was the only option; especially considering that Queensland also had a birthday to celebrate.

The audio system was designed by Scott Willsallen of Auditoria and supplied by Norwest Productions Brisbane. It included an L'Acoustics Kudo rig, with a Digico D5 and a Yamaha PM1D at FOH.

Over 35 channels of Shure UR series wireless microphones were employed for the featured artists and the professional entertainers. Shure and Sennheiser In-ear monitors were also used along with two Yamaha PM1D consoles for monitors. The event was a huge success.
