ASTRA Awards 2009

The ASTRA Awards are held annually to toast excellence in subscription television, above all celebrating what the service is ultimately renowned for: it’s unique range and variety of programs across it’s 80 channels.

Following a record number of viewer’s votes, the winners were announced at the star-studded 7th Annual ASTRA Awards, with Norwest Productions providing all the PA requirements for both the live and broadcast elements of the event.

TP Events, the awards show producer, organised a diverse and entertaining line up of acts for the awards night including The Hoodoo Gurus, Stomp, a scene from upcoming musical Avenue Q, String Ensembles and new pop talent Cassie Davey. The greatest challenge was the large changeovers and presets, a task that Norwest crew handled with ease.

The PA consisted of 16 x Adamson Y-10’s as the main PA with four a side as outfill and 8xT-21 Subs. There were also 28xRCF “ceiling speakers” distributed throughout the lighting trusses. FOH console for the performances was handled on a Yamaha PM5D with all speech elements mixed on a Yamaha DM2000.

The PA performed seamlessly with the design providing exceptional coverage as well as meeting all the requirements of being out of camera shot.
