The Brisbane EKKA
Norwest Brisbane supplied audio systems for 2009 EKKA to all Entertainment & Bar Stages as well as Event Judging and pavilion & paging systems across entire site.
The event, which is held annually, is a highlight on the Royal National Association calendar with people travelling from near and far to be part of the show.
For the first time this year Norwest was contracted with implementing the pavillion and paging systems. Although refit work on the pavilions was completed prior to the show, some existing cabling was used for the 100 Volt system that linked the pavilions along with the several kilometers of new cable we installed over the 22 hectare site. As no template or information existed on how the systems needed to be configured it was a matter of waiting for exhibitors and various animal breeders to arrive to shed some light on exactly how the signal needed to be routed and matrixed. With much of the existing cabling more than 30 years old - faults and failures were repaired as they occurred with lots of new cabling and late nights. We always knew dealing with such old wiring and lack of information would be challenging so it was a real achievement completing the task so successfully.
Norwest was also charged with monitoring all RF onsite. Norwest supplied 50 x channels of Radio Mics in a combination of hand held, & headsets utilising Shure R series, U Series & ULX components all monitored from Shure workbench. On top of the 50 channels Norwest supplied, we also monitored a further 60 channels of RF equipment used by other parties across the site. YES over 100 channels of radio gear and only 1 Ferris Wheel! Every day another piece of RF gear would be discovered somewhere onsite by way of a new exhibitor or side show attendant with some form of radio mic strapped to their head. Consequently, we were running between 3 & 12 RF solutions through work bench every day. |

Project manager for the job was Ray Moss.
Ray said "One of the greatest challenges was being asked one hour prior to the official opening to create a wireless lectern smack bang in the middle of main arena for all of the official speeches. Thanks to our great crew we were able to deliver - just in the nick of time - despite the obvious time constraints and the peak hour traffic!"
