2nd China International Youth Arts Festival Opening Ceremony

Held at the Century Theatre in Beijing the Opening Ceremony featured piano and violin solos, chamber music, dance, acrobatics and magic. The show opened with Mozart's signature piece "The Marriage of Figaro Prelude," performed by the symphony orchestra of Peking University.

It was followed by a piece entitled "Strolling in the Garden", by students from the Nanjing Arts Institute. The piece combines elements of ancient Kunqu opera, and contemporary dance moves, resulting in a cohesive whole that's both traditional and modern. Cambridge University's, elaborately chosen piece enthralled the packed house with its stunning visual effects and a seamless combination of modern technology and arts. The Cambridge students also performed poetry reading in Chinese.

Lin Jun said, "This year's opening ceremony was very impressive. We saw student performers from the most prestigious universities, including Peking University and Cambridge. We also have the concert presented by the disadvantaged students. The event has already become a phenomenon and we hope to raise more social issues."
