Christmas In The Park
The annual variety extravaganza that is Coca Cola Christmas In The Park is in it’s millionth year. With a new, revitalized look evident in the dynamic, redesigned stage, the show has a new lease of life.
The 2009 stage-design demanded a clear performance area with a wide, semi-circular thrust to be clear of any obstructions. Our monitor designer and the show’s monitor engineer, Paul Jeffery, entered into extensive trials of ‘underfloor’ monitoring whereby the wedges are mounted just below the floor level on the stage sub-structure. Large sections of the thrust are covered in a high-strength, punched steel sheet, carefully chosen for its acoustical transparency. The result was a clear, empty stage area which still had a full, enveloping monitor sound.
To cover such a large audience area, Oceania have invested in two 15m high PA towers providing us with a flying solution without unsightly scaffold structures. These towers can support over 1500kg each and employ Lodestar 2T chain hoists to lift the PA via a pulley system, similar to our 9m models.
The very nature of the event and the crowd it draws still requires a distributed T12 delay system. Precisely planned using the latest computer-aided design and mapping software and meticulously time-aligned, 32 cabinets were deployed on three concentric rings at carefully measured distances from the main PA. The result: seamless, even coverage over 200meters from the stage!
